OnSIS Verification Summary - Section D - Courses for Exceptional Students

Section D - Courses for Exceptional Students

The Section D Summary Report provides a verification view of Courses for Exceptional Students for applicable secondary schools and submission periods. Its purpose is to help schools review reported class and enrolment data before submission and confirm that counted students match the underlying detail logic.

The Summary Report is intended for secondary schools only and applies to the three OnSIS submission periods: October, March, and June.

Selection Criteria

School Selection

Selection criteria determine which database records are used in the report. Refer to selection criteria for analysis when the report does not return the correct records.

School Selection

  • Schools must not be Exclude From State Reporting.

  • Closed schools are not included.

  • The school must be a public secondary school.

  • The report applies to the OnSIS submission periods of October, March, and June.

Student Selection

  • Students are included based on both enrolment records and special education indicators.

    • Both active and inactive students must be considered.

    • Student data is selected from S_ON_STU_XML_CLASS_ENROL_C for the chosen academic year, school BSID, and submission type.

    • Only students with one of the following special education flags are included:

    Main exceptionality: S_ON_STU_XML_SPED_C.MAIN_EXCEPTIONALITY_FLAG = "T"

    Non-identified student: S_ON_STU_XML_SPED_C.NON_IDENTIFIED_STUDENT_FLAG = "T"

All special education placement types may be present in the source data, but only certain students are counted in the summary totals.

    • Students are counted only when S_ON_STU_XML_SPED_C.SPECIAL_EDU_PLMNT_TYPE is:

    F = Fully Self-Contained

    P = Partially Integrated

A student may appear in qualifying source data, but only students meeting the counting rules should contribute to the final enrolment total in the summary output.

Course and Segment Selection

  • Classes included in the Section D Summary Report must satisfy the following rules:

    • Classes are printed from S_ON_XML_Class_S.

    • Include classes with single or multiple segments only, based on S_ON_XML_SEGMENT_S.

    • For public schools, the class type must be S for Special Education.

Additional course delivery filtering applies to student class enrolment records:

    • Exclude records where COURSE_DELIVERY_TYPE = "4" for Out-of-school Co-op.

    • Exclude records where COURSE_DELIVERY_TYPE = "5" for In-school Co-op.

Only enrolment records that pass both the class-level criteria and the course delivery type rules are eligible for Section D Summary processing.

Counted Rules

The summary report totals are based on whether a student class enrolment record is Counted or only Listed in the related detail logic.

In practical terms:

  • Count means the record contributes to the Summary Report enrolment total.

  • List means the record may appear in the Detail Report but does not contribute to the Summary Report enrolment total.

A student class enrolment record is counted when:

  • The Course Start Date is on or after the Cycle Start Date, and

  • The Withdrawal/Dropped Code is null.

Records that do not meet the count rule are treated as list only and do not affect summary totals.
