Secondary Unexcused Absences for Assessment Report

The Secondary Unexcused Absences for Assessment report shows each student's unexcused absence rate for selected secondary course sections. Teachers and administrators can use it to review attendance patterns and apply professional judgment when making assessment decisions, in line with Growing Success. The report only shows the absence rate and does not assign Growing Success levels.

Prerequisite

Navigate to School > School Management > Attendance > Attendance Code Categories and create a new category. Enter a name and description of your choice, and set the Code to UnEx.

Next, navigate to School > School Management > Attendance > Attendance Codes and assign the UnEx category to each attendance code that should count as an unexcused absence for assessment purposes.

Note: If no applicable attendance codes are associated with the UnEx category, the report will display zero unexcused classes missed.

Absence calculation

Unexcused classes missed ÷ scheduled classes × 100

The result is rounded to one decimal place. If no applicable attendance codes are categorized as UNEX, unexcused classes missed is zero. The rate is zero for students with scheduled classes. It is blank when a student has no scheduled classes.

Selection Criteria

Selection criteria determine which database records are used in the report. Refer to selection criteria for analysis when the report does not return the correct records.

  • Students must be enrolled in the selected course sections during the reporting period.

  • Student must be marked absent and the attendance code categorized as UNEX for absences to be recorded.

  • Each missed meeting is counted separately.

  • For sections set to Once For All Meetings, an absence is counted once per date.
