Independent Study and Online Learning Register for Day School Pupils
This register is used for tracking information about enrolment and attendance for pupils enrolled in non-classroom instruction offered through an independent study or online program.
Note: This version of the report references the [S_ON_CC_WKUNOLM_C] extended schema table and should be used for classes for the 2015-2016 school year and later.
Information from Ministry
A pupil engaged in "independent study" is not registered for classroom instruction but takes credit courses that fulfil the ministry's program and diploma requirements and meets with qualified teachers for scheduled times during the school day. It should be noted that a course for which a pupil is enrolled cannot be considered an independent study course if any portion of it consists of classroom instructional time that is also used to classify the pupil as either "full-time" or "part-time".
Enrolment in non-classroom instruction offered through an independent study program must not be included in the enrolment register for elementary or secondary schools. The ministry's Independent Study and e-Learning Register for Day School Pupils, or an appropriate computerized equivalent, must be used to record this enrolment. The Independent Study and e-Learning Register for Day School Pupils must not include any pupil whose enrolment is recorded as "full-time" in any publicly funded school.
Selection Criteria
Teacher Course Section Selection
For the School(s) selected on the report run page, process the Day School Independent Study course sections. Use the session term dates based on the term at the top of the report run page to get the students enrolled.
Process all selected school(s). Schools will not be included if Exclude From State Reporting or School is closed flag is set. Only active schools are processed.
Sections must be flagged as Independent Study ([S_ON_SEC_X]IsIndependentStudy_Class = 1).
The Register Type should be empty.
Courses must have students enrolled in course.
Course must be in progress as of or completed prior to run date for current school year.
Attendance details: for students to be marked attending the class, the attendance code must be tied to the INDEPSTUDY attendance category.
Student Selection
For each Course Section, get all students:
enrolled for at least one day.
who have at least one [S_ON_CC_WKUNOLM_C] record which contains a mark ([S_ON_CC_WKUNOLM_C]Mark). A record must be present for a work unit number AND a mark to be considered completed (marks may be entered via the PowerTeacher or PowerSchool Administrator portals).
The report does not consider a student to be enrolled in an independent study class on any day associated with a school enrolment (i.e. Students or ReEnrollments record) with an attendance type (i.e. EnrollmentType field) = 'EX'. This may have the effect of excluding the student from the report if, as a consequence, he/she has no days considered as enrolled in the class.
Sections must be flagged as Independent Study ([S_ON_SEC_X]IsIndependentStudy_Class = 1) or a student's CC enrollment must be flagged as an Independent Study class ([S_ON_CC_X]IsIndependentStudy_Class = 1).
Students excluded from state reporting are not displayed.
If attendance entries for a particular student in a course exceed 30, the register adds additional page(s) to show all attendance entered. The grand totals only show on the last page of the class.
