Ed-Fi: Improved Bell Schedule Processing for Class Periods

The system has enhanced how Class Periods are published with Bell Schedules and Cycle Days to ensure that courses are represented only on the days they are actually taught. Previously, when a bell schedule was applied across multiple cycle days, class periods under that schedule were published for all cycle day combinations, even if certain courses met only once per week.

What’s Changed in Bell Schedules Publishing

  • Class Periods are now published in Bell Schedules, only for the cycle days on which their associated sections are taught.

  • Class periods that do not have any sections taught on any cycle day will not be published.

Impact

  • Courses that meet on a rotation or partial‑week basis are no longer reported as full‑week courses.

Note for districts

  • Use dedicated class periods for rotation courses and avoid sharing them with daily‑meeting courses

  • Ensure all course sections including rotation course sections are explicitly mapped to the correct cycle days in section setup.

  • Avoid mixing regular and rotation sections within the same class period.

  • After taking the update, run the Publish Changes option for the Schedules resource category on the Data Exchange Dashboard for the new processing logic to take effect.

  • If an error appears on the Bell Schedule resource stating “Validation of Bell Schedule failed, scheduled class period requires at least one object in the collection,” this indicates that no class periods are linked to that bell schedule, or that the class periods linked to the bell schedule do not have any sections taught on that particular Cycle day.

Ed‑Fi: Diploma Award Date Publishing Logic Update in StudentAcademicRecord Resource

DiplomaAwardDate in the StudentAcademicRecord Ed‑Fi resource is now published only for the school year in which the diploma was awarded. The system determines the correct school year by comparing the Diploma Award Date to the School Term Start Date and the start date of the following school year. If the next school year start date is not configured, the Diploma Award Date is published in the current school year.

Note: For these changes to take effect, districts can run the Publish Changes option for the Transcripts resource category in the Data Exchange Dashboard.
