Student Restraint and Seclusion

Introduction

The report extracts one record for each action which has one of the following action attributes selected as Yes

  • Subjected to Seclusion^

  • Subjected to Physical Restraint^

  • Subjected to Mechanical Restraint^

  • Subjected to Prone Restraint^

Selection Criteria

Selection criteria determine which database records are used in the report. Refer to selection criteria for analysis when the report does not return the correct records.

Student Selection

  • The Incident date falls within the report start and end dates.

  • The action is assigned to the behavior.

  • The behavior is attached to the participant.

  • The participant must be either an Offender or Victim.

  • The Incident, Behavior, and Action are all State Reportable except for the behavior code “Restraint/Seclusion without Discipline^ (00)”.

  • The student subjected to physical restraint or seclusion is not excluded from state reporting.

  • The school where the student is enrolled is not excluded from state reporting.

  • The student is enrolled between the report start and end dates.

Field

Description

Select Schools*

Select one, all or a selection of Schools. A school selection will only be offered at District Office. When running at a school, only that school will be available.

Select Students*

Indicate which students to include in the report by selecting one of the following options:

  • The Selected x Students Only – Run the report for students in the current selection.

  • All Students – Run the report for all students in the current school or district that meet the selection criteria.

If running the report for a single student, or group of students, select the students prior to running the report.


Report Start Date

Select the start date.

Report End Date

Select the end date.

Report Output

Each of the fields displayed in the output of the report are described below. See Understanding the Report Output Table for a definition of each column in the table.

The grade level of the student based on the enrollment.

Section_504_Status

This is based on the following condition:

If the Incident Date falls within the Entry and Exit Dates of a student record in the Student’s Special Ed History child table on the Special Ed page and the Section 504 Handicapped checkbox is checked, then 1 is reported, else 0.

SPED_Status

This is based on the following condition:

If the Incident Date falls within the Entry and Exit Dates of a student record in the Student’s Special Ed History child table on the Special Ed page and the Special Education (IEP) checkbox is checked, then 1 is reported, else 0.

Restraint_Type

The value is taken from the fields under the Restraint and Seclusion of the action attributes.

Valid values:

  • 01 - When Subjected to Physical Restraint^ is Yes in action attributes.

  • 02 - When Subjected to Seclusion^ is Yes in action attributes.

  • 03 - When Subjected to Mechanical Restraint^ is Yes in action attributes.

  • 04 - When Subjected to Prone Restraint^ is Yes in action attributes.

Restraint_Length

The value is taken from the Restraint Length^ action attribute.

If the Restraint_Type is ‘01 (Subjected to Physical Restraint^)’, then the actual value of Restraint Length action attribute is displayed.

For any other Restraint_Type or blank value, 00 is displayed.

Handcuffed_Ind

Indicates if the student was handcuffed.

The Handcuffed^ action attribute is enabled only when the Subjected to Mechanical Restraint^ action attribute is set to Yes.

If the Handcuffed^ action attribute is set to No or blank, 0 is reported and 1 if it is set to Yes.

If the Handcuffed action attribute is not enabled, N/A is reported.
