Ed-Fi :Update to Daily Attendance Calculation Logic

The attendanceEventReason and eventDuration elements, which represent the absence code and the percentage of the school day missed, have been updated to improve accuracy and consistency in attendance reporting. These changes apply only to the studentSchoolAttendanceEvent resource (daily attendance). No updates have been made to section-level attendance (studentSectionAttendanceEvent).

Overview of Changes:

• The calculation process for the studentSchoolAttendanceEvent resource has been completely revised.

• Students are now considered absent if they miss more than 50% of the school day based on their scheduled instructional minutes.

• Section-level exclusions are now factored into the calculation, ensuring that attendance for excluded sections does not impact overall attendance.

• The Attendance Conversions page is no longer considered in the calculation of eventDuration.

Impact on Attendance Event Reason:

• When multiple absence codes are recorded on the same day, the system prioritizes the SC-OSS code if present.

• If SC-OSS is not present, the absence code associated with the longest duration is published as the attendanceEventReason.

• This ensures that the most significant reason for absence is accurately reflected.

Impact on Event Duration (Rounding Update):

• The calculation of eventDuration now aligns with Ed-Fi standards, which require publishing values up to two decimal places.

• The updated logic disregards any digits beyond the third decimal place before rounding, preventing unintended changes caused by additional decimal precision.

• This approach ensures consistent and accurate representation of absence duration.

SC Ed-Fi : Update to IGP Mapping for State Reporting (Student Demographics Resource)

The logic for mapping Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs) has been enhanced to include prior-year data when required. This information is published in the studentEducationOrganizationAssociation resource (Demographics) as part of the indicators data elements.

With this update:

• If an IGP Primary exists for the current year, the most recent IGP from the previous year is also included.

• If no IGP Primary exists for the current year, the IGP Primary from the previous year is used.

• To prevent duplicate indicator names and ensure clarity when reviewing data, all prior-year indicators are suffixed with “PREV”.

Note:
Users may notice that the Ed-Fi processing time for the Student Enrollments resource is higher than before. This is expected with the current changes, and an upcoming update will address and optimize this processing time.
