Exit/Withdrawal Codes
The following exit codes must be set up at the district and assigned at the student level
Code | Description |

00 | Dropout, under 18 |
01 | Dropout, 18 and over |
02 | Withdrawn to state institution (i.e. TPS, DHS, etc.) |
03 | Transferred to other Tennessee school system |
04 | Transferred to other school in same system Note: Includes students transferring to Adult High School with Superintendent's approval. |
05 | Transferred out-of-state |
06 | Transferred to non-public school in Tennessee |
07 | Doctor certified withdrawal |
08 | Deceased |
09 | Transferred to mental or drug rehabilitation institution |
10 | Withdrawn to a home school pre-k withdrawn per parent request Note: Formal Intent to register must be on file. |
11 | Court order Note: Copy of court order/judge decision must be on file. |
12 | A student who receives a regular high school diploma in less than four years |
13 | Pre-kindergarten students due to immaturity Note: School initiated dismissal from TN's voluntary Pre-K program. Requires rewritten request to and approval from the TN Department of Education. |
14 | Withdraw from under performing school to enroll in another school within district Note: This code is no longer used as of the 2017-2018 school year. |
15 | TEIS transition, not eligible for special education services. |
16 | A special education student, who has been awarded a completion document, and entitled to continue their education due to Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) requirement. This withdrawal is only to be used when the student is withdrawing permanently; it is not to be used to indicate the end of year action when a student is returning the next school year. |
17 | Students who withdraw from traditional bricks and mortar to enroll in an online school where the content is delivered via the Internet and the school is not located in Tennessee. |
