What's New in the 2026-2027 School Year

PowerSchool now supports SIF Unity, the latest SIF Implementation Specification that builds on the school interoperability standard (SIF). PowerSchool DEX with SIF Unity lets Local Education Agencies (LEAs) sync PowerSchool SIS data with the SIMS ODS in near real time and gives districts control to publish data to the state and handle errors before submission deadlines.

Profile Setup

  • New MA 2026-2027 profile available when PowerSchool Data Exchange is enabled

  • Data exchange and authentication URLs will be provided during the onboarding call.

  • School Year 2026-27 enabled with Data Changes and Publish service options

This section provides a consolidated view of enhancements, data element changes, code list updates, business rule modifications, and reporting updates implemented to support 2026-2027 DESE requirements. Each update includes a brief description and the associated Jira reference for easy tracking.

WA07 Job Class Code Updates for 2026-2027

The WA07 Job Class Code list has been updated for the 2026-2027 school year. Updates include the removal of Job Class Code 3331, the addition of Job Class Codes

  • 3334 -School Resource Officer

  • 3335-School Safety Specialist

and revisions to selected job class descriptions (CODE-1209) to align with the latest DESE requirements.

New SIMS Data Elements for Seal of Biliteracy and MyCAP

To support 2026-2027, DESE reporting requirements, the following new data elements have been added to the SIMS Data Elements, Current Enrollment, and Previous Enrollment pages:

  • DOE058 – Seal of Biliteracy Language 1

  • DOE059 – Seal of Biliteracy Language 2

  • DOE060 – My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP) Participation

WA08 Assignment Code Updates for 2026-2027

The descriptions for WA08 Assignment Codes in both Static and Dynamic WAR records have been updated to align with the 2026-2027 DOE requirements. Below is the Updated Description:

  • Code 208: Non-Core Subject: Career Technical Education Teachers

  • Code 403: Instructional Paraprofessionals: Career Technical Education

SIMS Data Element Updates for 2026-2027

SIMS Data Elements page has been updated with the 2026-2027 DESE reporting changes. Updates include

  • the disabling of

    • DOE028 Value- code 02 (Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction)

    • DOE045 Value-code 03 (Early College Promise).

  • revised SIMS data element names:

    • DOE031 name updated to CCTE – Competency Attainment.

    • DOE035 name updated to CCTE - Type of Program.

    • DOE042 name updated to CCTE — Single Parent Status.

    • DOE043 name updated to CCTE – State Designated CTE Program Participation.

    • DOE044 name updated to CCTE – Career Connections Program Participation.

    • DOE012 code 30 description updated to Dropout — Enrolled in HiSET or GED program, leading to a MA equivalency credential

NCES Secondary Course Code List Updated for 2026-2027

The NCES Secondary Course Code list on the Courses and Sections pages has been updated to reflect the latest WA10 Secondary Course code changes.

Updates include:

  • Disabled MyCAP course codes: 22301, 22302, 22303, 22304, 22305, 22306, 22307

  • Retired course codes: 10993, 10994

  • New course codes added: 12061, 10023, 10024

These updates ensure the NCES Secondary Course Code list remains aligned with current Massachusetts state reporting requirements.

DOE043, DOE044, and DOE035 Program Code and Description Updates

DOE043 (Chapter 74 Participation) and DOE044 (Non-Chapter 74 Participation) have been updated with the latest

program codes and their descriptions.

  • Program codes updates for DOE043

    • 018301 = Veterinary Science (New Code)

    • 439999 = Public Safety (New Code)

    • 470603 = Automotive Collision

    • 470607 = Aviation Maintenance (New Code)

    • 480510 = Advanced Manufacturing (New Code)

  • Program codes updates for DOE044

    • 4763 = Automotive Collision

    • 4999 = Public Safety (New Code)

Additionally, the descriptions for DOE035 (CCTE - Type of Program) code 00 and 14 have been revised to align with current reporting requirements.

CIPS Code List Updates for 2026-2027

The CIPS Code List has been updated to align with the latest reporting requirements. The following changes have been made:

  • Added CIPS codes: C439999, C500402, and C010903

  • Discarded CIPS codes: C470106 ,C018301 and C480501

  • Updated descriptions for selected CIPS codes.

IRC Code List Updates for 2026-2027 Reporting

The IRC Code List has been updated to support 2026-2027 reporting requirements. New IRC codes (955-961) have been added and are available for selection in DOE047, DOE048, and DOE049 reporting fields.

MA SIF Unity-StudentSchoolEnrollment Resource Updated to Support Seal of Biliteracy Language and My CAP Participation

The StudentSchoolEnrollment resource has been updated to support the SealofBiliteracyLanguage and MyCAPParticipation extended elements for SIF Unity publishing. Additionally, Data Change Framework (DCF) support has been enabled for these fields.
