Exit Codes
The following exit codes must be defined for the district.
Notes:
- W1 thru W9: The A3 and i.4.see reports will work even if you specify them as W01 thru W09.
- W20 thru W29: Students who dropped out of school. Districts may wish to assign specific reasons to these codes for internal use. Students intending to pursue GEDs or programs similar to Job Corps would be appropriately listed in one of these categories. The following codes/descriptions are suggestions.
Code | Meaning |

W1 | A student promoted or transferred to another room in the same school during this school year when homeroom registers are kept |
W2 | A student promoted or transferred to another public school in the same school district |
W3 | A student transferred to a non-public school, public academy, JMA school, charter school, or outside the state |
W4 | A student promoted or transferred to another public school outside the school district |
W5 | A student transferred to an approved home schooled program |
W6 | A student transferred to another public institution such as prison, juvenile institution, or mental institution |
W8 | A student who was expelled |
W9 | A student who left school for a reason not covered under withdrawal codes W1-W8, but who is not considered a drop out. For example, a foreign exchange student |
W10 | The student is deceased |
W11 | A student who left due to early graduation or completed all requirements for graduation prior to the end of the school year |
W12 | Student's town of fiscal responsibility changed but the student remained in the same school |
W14 | Student transferred outside the state (including foreign exchange students returning to home countries) |
W20 | A student who dropped out of school for family responsibility |
W21 | A student who dropped out of school for pregnancy |
W22 | A student who dropped out of school for academic difficulty |
W23 | A student who dropped out of school for pursuing a GED |
W24 | A student who dropped out of school for employment |
W25 | A student who dropped out of school for armed services |
W26 | A student who dropped out of school for behavioral reasons |
W27 | A student who dropped out of school for reasons not covered previously |
