Verifying Attendance

Attendance

Attendance

Verify that attendance data is entered for the student.

A valid unexcused absence occurs when the student is assigned an attendance code from the unexcused absence attendance code category. For meeting attendance, all attendance codes for the day must be assigned to the unexcused absence attendance code category.

A valid unexcused tardy occurs when the student is assigned an attendance code from either the “late to school” or “early checkout” attendance code categories. When calculating truancy, a student may only have 1 unexcused tardy instance per day. For meeting attendance, the “late to school” attendance code must be assigned to their first class of the day (not necessarily the first period at the school) and the “early checkout” attendance code must be assigned to their last class of the day (not necessarily the last period at the school).

Select one of these options when assigning a code for tardiness or absence:

  • Calculate this attendance code as Unexcused absence for Truancy Calculation flag for unexcused absences.

  • Calculate this attendance code as Unexcused Tardy for Truancy Calculation for unexcuses tardies.

  • If both flags are selected for an attendence code then it is added to the unexcused absence count in the Calculate Truancy report.
