SIF Unity Setup

The following setup is required to use IOWA SIF Unity.

Pre-Conditions

  • PS SIS version: SIS_26.3.x or later

  • PS State Reporting version: SR_26.7.3.0 or later

Step 1: Enable Data Exchange (DEX)

  1. Go to Start, System Management , Server, Plugin Configuration.

  2. Type DEX in the Filter to find PowerSchool Data Exchange (DEX).

  3. Check the box for PowerSchool Data Exchange (DEX) and click Enable.

  4. Confirm the green Plugin successfully enabled message appears.

Note: This is a one-time setup.

Step 2: Create an IA_SIF_Unity Profile

  1. On the same Plugin page, type DEX in the Filter.

  2. Click PowerSchool Data Exchange (DEX), scroll to the bottom, and click Profile Configuration.

  3. Click Add Profile.

  4. Enter IA_SIF_Unity as the Profile Name.

  5. Select SIF_IA_4 as the Profile Type.

  6. Verify the profile is On (Enabled) and click Save.

Step 3: Configure the SIF Profile & Test Connection

  1. Go to System Management, Data Exchange, General Setup.

  2. Confirm System Enabled is set to On.

  3. Select the newly created profile from the Profile dropdown.

  4. Enter the Iowa-provided SIF Unity endpoint in the Data Exchange URL and Authentication URL fields.

  5. Enable the appropriate school year (e.g., 2026-2027).

  6. Enable the Data Changes and Publish checkboxes to send data changes automatically.

  7. Click Save.

Configure the LEA:

  1. Go to System Management, Data Exchange, General Setup.

  2. Click Configure next to the LEA you want to publish data for.

  3. In the configuration window:

    • Set LEA Enabled to On.

    • Enter the Environment value from the Iowa agency.

    • Enter the Session Token in the Authentication Key field.

    • Enter the Shared Secret in the Authentication Secret field.

  4. Click Test Connection to verify the connection. Save your changes.

  5. Click Save on the main page.

Subdistrict Configuration (if applicable):

  1. Enable and configure subdistricts at the District Office level.

  2. Each subdistrict will appear at the bottom of the configuration page.

  3. Repeat the configuration steps for each subdistrict.

  4. Confirm all LEAs show an Active status.

  5. Save your changes.

Other Setup Options

Confirming the Publishing Year

  1. Go to System Management, Data Exchange, General Setup.

  2. Uncheck the previous publishing year.

  3. Select the new publishing year.

  4. Save your changes.

Enabling or Disabling a School

  1. Go to System Management, Data Exchange, Organizations.

  2. Make the desired selection.

  3. Save your changes.

Note: Ensure the correct profile is selected before making changes.

Enabling or Disabling a Data Resource

  1. Go to System Management, Data Exchange, Resource Configuration.

  2. Make the desired selection.

  3. Save your changes.

Step 4: Publishing Data

  1. Go to Data and Reporting, Data Exchange from the main PowerSchool menu.

  2. The SIF Unity Dashboard opens.

  3. For the first run, click Run Now next to LEA Info.

    • The sync takes about 2–3 minutes.

    • When successful, LEA Info appears under the Published column.

  4. Click Run All for each section to publish all enabled resources.

  5. This can be done once at the district level to publish data for the entire district.

After Publishing:

  1. Review the Dashboard for errors.

  2. Verify the expected number of records were published.

  3. The dashboard displays the most recent publication date and time for each resource.
