The following information describes the fields required for California State Reporting. For information about general district course setup, see Help > System Help > Manage Courses.

Important: Assign a unique name to each course; this will ensure that If there are multiple historical grade records with credit that have the same course name, the CA Transcript will allocate credits correctly.

Enter the Course Number. This field is read-only after the course is created.

Note: Must be ten characters or less for CALPADS.

Enter the CBEDS or CALPADS course code. If both a CBEDS and CALPADS course code correspond to this course, enter the CBEDS code.

In CALPADS reports, codes between 1000 and 1015 will be extracted as 1000.

For the Class Size Reduction report, enter 1009, 1010, or 1012 to indicate that a course is a combination course.

Choose the content code to indicate the Education Program to which the course is related.

For example, all content of a Career Technical Education course is related to that Education Program.

Required for CALPADS if the CTE Technical Preparation Indicator is Y.

CRS-CTE Postsecondary Articulated Course Indicator

Choose the appropriate CTE Postsecondary Articulated Course indicator.

Technical Preparation courses are within a CTE career program at a postsecondary institution. The program consists of two+ years of postsecondary education or apprenticeship. Technical Preparation courses can only be offered by districts belonging to a Technical Preparation Consortia.

CTE Pathway

Choose the CTE pathway code associated with the course.

Instructional Level Code

Choose the Instructional Level Code.

The code is determined by the level of instruction, such as remedial or college, or by comparing the course with a state or nationally recognized course of study, such as Gifted and Talented or Honors.

Choose the appropriate service code to indicate a service performed within an Education Service Category. Every Education Program provides one or more services to students.

Language of Instruction Code

Choose the language of instruction code to indicate the language provided or received.

Note: English and American Sign Language are not CALPADS options.

Required for CALPADS if the Education Service Code is 1 or Instructional Strategy is 600.

Instructional Strategy Code

Choose the instructional strategy code.

The instructional strategy is the method used to deliver curriculum and instruction.

Independent Study Indicator

Choose the appropriate independent study indicator.

Independent study students work independently, according to a written agreement and under the general supervision of a credentialed teacher. Instruction follows the curriculum and meets district graduation requirements.

Distance/Online Learning Indicator

Choose a distance/online learning indicator.

Distance learning is an instructional method where the pupil and instructor are in different locations and interact via communications technology.

Education Program Funding Source Code

Choose the Education Program that represents a particular source of funding.

For example, a course may have been previously or currently funded by the CA Partnership Academy.

Choose a Career Technical Education Course Provider category that best describes the entity that provides a Career Technical Education course.

Choose a course content subcategory code representing a more detailed subject matter within the course content area.

Required for CALPADS if the State Course Code is 9000, 9051, 9080, 9090, 9130-37, 9155, 9222, 9223, 9291, 9292, 9293, 9294, 9316, 9381, or 9400.

Online Course Instruction Type Code

Choose a value representing the type of online instruction that is being delivered in a course section.

Required for CALPADS if Distance Learning Indicator equals Y.

Choose Y to indicate that a course in grades five through eight is being taught as part of a middle school core setting.

Local Assignment Option Code

Choose the local assignment option code that represents the local assignment option approved by the local governing board to authorize a teacher to teach a course without the appropriate credential or authorization.

In the Student Course Section or the Course Section reports, if the Bypass Validations are set to No, the following Local Assignment Option codes will be considered for the generation of the report.

Course Name to use on Transcripts

Enter a name to use for the course on the CA Transcript report, if different from the course name.

CA Transcript: If there are multiple historical grade records with credit and the same course name, the CA Transcript will not allocate credits correctly. The solution is to assign a unique name to each course. For example, if a student completes a Music course in each year at school, change the course names to Music 1, Music 2, Music 3, etc., so that the student can be awarded credit correctly for each year.
