Search for CALPADS English Language Acquisition (ELA) Fields

Use the following steps to search for CALPADS English Language Acquisition (ELA) Fields.

  1. On the Start Page, click Special Functions. The Special Functions page appears.
  2. Under California Special Functions, click CALPADS English Language Acquisition (ELA) Fields. The English Language Acquisition Search page displays the following search fields.

Field

Description

ELA Status Code

(Blank For All)

Select the ELA Status to use as the filter for search results. Use the control key to select multiple codes for the filter.

Search results will contain the current ELA status for all students who meet the search criteria, even if the current ELA status record has been marked as Exclude from State Reporting.


Primary Language

(Blank for All)

Select the Primary Language/s to use as the filter for search results. Use the control key to select multiple codes for the filter.

Search results will contain the current Primary Language for all students who meet the search criteria, even if the associated ELA record has been marked as Exclude from State Reporting.

Include Inactive Students

Select this option to include inactive ELA students in the search.

Status Start Date

Choose one of the following for filtering by Status Start Date:

  • Leave the date fields blank to not include Status Start Date as part of the filter for records.
  • Select a date or date range as a filter for the search for the ELA Status Start date. Dates are inclusive.
  • Select the option to include Blank/Null to search for records with a blank or null Status Start Date.

Grade Level

Select the grade level/s to use as the filter for search results. Use the control key to select multiple codes for the filter.

Note: For  school year is 23-24 or higher, grade level mapped to LTK will be displayed. 

  • Grade 0 = KN
  • Grades -1 and below = TK, PS, IN
  • Grades >12 = AD

School

(Blank for All)

This field is only visible from the District Office.

Select the school/s to use as the filter for search results. Use the control key to select multiple codes for the filter.

To search for students with no ELA history, select No Records Exist but leave the Primary Language field and Status Start Date blank (without selection).

Once a selection is made, it will remain the selection until the filter results are cleared by exiting the search window. You can add additional filters after the first selection of filters by using the control key.

3. Click Apply Filter(s). Search results appear in the Results window at the bottom of the page.

Grade Level

ELA Status

Status Start Date

Primary Language

School

The students' locally assigned student number (not the state student number).

The student's name.

The student’s current grade level.

The student’s current ELA status.

The date the student’s ELA status started.

The student’s primary language.

The school the student currently attends.

By default, the page displays results for all students in the search; however, at the bottom of the page, you can select how many results to show per page.

After the search, you can:

    • Click the name of a student to work with that student.
    • Create a selection of the students displayed on the page. Click Make these students the current selection. The Group Functions page appears.
