Attendance Recovery Setup
This checklist helps districts ensure compliance for Attendance Recovery (AR) reporting in PowerSchool. There are two ways to set it up:
For schools using PowerSchool to configure and manage Attendance Recovery (AR), designating the Attendance Recovery–exclusive school as a remote or summer school is no longer mandatory. The Attendance Recovery and Expanded Learning Indicator checkboxes on the school setup page are now always visible, regardless of school type.
This allows you to configure Attendance Recovery at non-summer schools and enroll students directly into AR sections without creating a separate school enrollment record.
Option 1: Configuring AR within PowerSchool
You can use this approach if the district wants to track and manage Attendance Recovery data entirely within PowerSchool.
School Setup
Navigate to Start Page > District > Schools/School Info.
Enable the checkbox: "Is this remote school used for Attendance Recovery Programs.” This field only appears when the school type is set as remote school.
Course and Section Setup Mark the courses and sections which deliver AR programs:
Courses: Set "Attendance Recovery Indicator = Yes"
Sections: Set "Attendance Recovery Indicator = Yes"
Both course and section levels require these new indicator fields
Student Enrollment
Enroll students who will participate in attendance recovery into the designated AR sections.
Attendance Code Setup
Create specific attendance codes for AR tracking (e.g., AR-Present, AR-Absent)
Enable the checkbox: "Is this Attendance Code used for Attendance Recovery?"
This new indicator field distinguishes AR attendance from regular attendance
Option 2: External Tracking
Skip setup steps (1-3 above)
For each student participating in AR:
Navigate to the Attendance Recovery override page
Manually enter recovery session dates.
Attendance Conversion
System calculates total minutes attended using AR-specific attendance codes
Converts minutes to days based on grade-level requirements:
Grades 1-3: 230 minutes = 1 day
Other grades: 180 minutes = 1 day
