Student Discipline

This category captures information about student discipline incidents and disciplinary actions. The Student Discipline category includes the following data views and resources:

Discipline Incident

This view captures information about discipline incidents successfully published to DPI. This represents an occurrence of an infraction ranging from a minor behavioral problem that disrupts the orderly functioning of a school or classroom (such as tardiness) to a criminal act that results in the involvement of a law enforcement official (such as robbery). A single event (for example, a fight) is one incident regardless of how many perpetrators or victims are involved. Discipline incidents are events classified as warranting discipline action. The layout includes the School Name, Incident Identifier, Last Publish Date, and Publishing ID.

Selection Criteria

Records are published if the following criteria are met:

  • The school must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • The school must have an Ed-Fi State School number.

  • The school  must have a WISEdata Reporting option.

  • The student must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • The date of the incident must fall within the current school year.

  • There must be at least one valid student enrollment associated with the log.

  • There must be a primary incident.

  • There must be a Removal Type.

Resource Output

  • A separate disciplineIncidents record is published for each unique incident that meets the selection criteria.

  • The disciplineIncidents resource is dependent on the prior publishing of the following resource: student.

  • LEAs and Schools may upload (publish) data to the ODS in real time ("Run Now" button).

Note: Click Export to export the data collection results to an Excel spreadsheet.

Student Discipline Incidents

This association indicates those students who were victims, perpetrators, witnesses, and/or reporters for a discipline incident. The layout includes the School Name, Student Number, Student Name, Incident Identifier, Incident Date, Primary Incident, State Student Number, Last Publish Date, and Publishing ID.

studentDisciplineIncidentBehaviorAssociation (SDIBA)

This association indicates those students who were victims, perpetrators, witnesses, and/or reporters for a discipline incident. The StudentDisciplineIncidentBehaviorAssociation (SDIBA) will replace the StudentDisciplineIncidentAssociation (SDIA) for SY 23-24 and beyond.

Selection Criteria

Records are published if the following criteria are met:

  • The student's school of enrollment must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • The student's school of enrollment must have an Ed-Fi State School number.

  • The student's school of enrollment must have a WISEdata Reporting option.

  • The student must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • A student record has been published for the student.

  • The studentUniqueId (Wisconsin Student Number/WISEid) must be populated in PowerSchool.

  • The incident must include at least one state-reportable behavior type code.

  • The incident date falls within the year of the Term selected in the PowerSchool.

  • The studentDisciplineIncidentAssociation resource is dependent on the prior publishing of the following resource: student, disciplineIncidents, and studentSchoolAssociations.

  • LEAs and Schools may upload (publish) data to the ODS in real time ("Run Now" button).

Student Discipline Action

This view captures information about Student Discipline Actions successfully published to DPI. This represents actions taken by a school or district after a disruptive event that is recorded as a discipline incident. The layout includes the School Name, Student Number, Student Name, Incident Identifier, Incident Date, Action Identifier, Discipline Date, Type of Action, State Student Number, Last Publish Date, and Publishing ID.

Selection Criteria

Records are published if the following criteria are met:

  • The student's school of enrollment must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • The student's school of enrollment must have an Ed-Fi State School number.

  • The student's school of enrollment must have a WISEdata Reporting option.

  • The student must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • A student record has been published for the student.

  • The studentUniqueId (Wisconsin Student Number/WISEid) must be populated in PowerSchool.

  • The incident must include at least one state-reportable disciplinary action.

  • The incident and discipline action dates fall within the year of the Term selected in the PowerSchool.

Resource Output

  • DisciplineActions are submitted for Removal Types that fall within one of the following scenarios:

    • Removal type is Expulsion or Out-Of-School Suspension

    • The number of days removed is more than 0.5 days and is an IDEA student. IDEA student is based on the SPED enrollment within the incident date or the Primary Disability code on the student's enrollment within the incident date.

  • The disciplineActions resource is dependent on the prior publishing of the following resource: student, disciplineIncidents, studentDisciplineIncidentAssociation, and studentSchoolAssociations.

  • LEAs and Schools may upload (publish) data to the ODS in real time ("Run Now" button).

  • N - firearms Incident Type and not modified OR not a firearms Incident Type

  • M - modified for reasons other than IDEA. Reduction in the minimum one-year (12 months) expulsion period for firearms for reasons other than IDEA. The expulsion period begins on the removal period start date. This reduction is specified in the student's expulsion order under s.120.13(1)(c)3 or (e)3, Wis Stats.

  • I - modified because of IDEA. Reduction in the minimum one- year (12 months) expulsion period for firearms because of IDEA. The expulsion period begins on the removal period start date. This reduction is specified in the student's expulsion order
