Descriptor Errors

Common Descriptor Errors

"Unable to resolve value “X” to an existing 'ExampleDescriptor' resource."

Examples:

  • "message": "Unable to resolve value '9' to an existing 'InternetAccessTypeInResidenceDescriptor' resource."

  • "message": "Unable to resolve value 'G' to an existing 'DisabilityDescriptor' resource."

  • "message": "Unable to resolve value 'BLK' to an existing 'NMPEDClassPeriodDescriptor' resource."

Possible Causes:

  • The descriptor set has not been downloaded.

    • Check to see if the descriptor set exists (if the element was recently added in an update):

      • Dashboard > Descriptors (Common Codes) > Review > Downloaded Code Set Values > Use filter function on Code Set Name.

  • If the descriptor set exists, check to see what value is stored in the field in question:

    • Use Quick Export or Data Export Manager: Incorrect/invalid field values are often not visible through the UI.

Less Common Descriptor Errors

  • Duplicated descriptor values:

    • One set will have ed-fi.org in the namespace.

    • One set will have nmped.org in the namespace.

    • This needs to be addressed by Support. Please submit a case if you are seeing this issue.

      • Note: This seems to be rare.

Other Descriptor Errors

Example:

"message": Validation of 'StudentSpecial Education AssociationEvent' failed. \r\n\tSpecialEducationEventTypeDescriptorId is required. \n"

  • Usually, this occurs when publishing Sped Event data.
