Carl Perkins Report

Introduction

This report contains career and technical education (CTE) course data for students. The report collects the data required from school districts with Carl Perkins Career & Technical Education grant funds.

The file name is a concatenation of the letter P, the district number, followed by a period (.), then the letter E and the last two digits of the year from the report end date.

Selection Criteria

Selection criteria determine which database records are used in the report. Refer to selection criteria for analysis when the report does not return the correct records.

File 1 Record Selection Student must be in grades 9-12.

  • Student must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • Student must have one, or more, course enrollments into a course flagged as vocational.

  • Student must have a stored grade for the vocational course with an earned credit value greater than 0.

File 2 Record Selection

  • Student must not be excluded from state reporting.

  • Student must have a Tech Assessment record for the vocation course enrollment that is pulled in File 1.

Enter the start date for the reporting period.

Enter the end date for the reporting period.

Single Parent

Indicates whether the student is a single parent, including single parent mothers, pregnant women, and single parent fathers. This value is determined by the Single Parent field on the Alaska State Information page.

Displaced Homemaker

Indicates whether the student meets one of the following criteria:

  • Has worked primarily without remuneration to care for a home and family and for that reason has diminished marketable skills, or

  • Has been dependent on the income of another family member, but is no longer supported by that income, or

  • Is a parent whose youngest dependent child will become ineligible to receive assistance under part A of title IV of the Social Security Act no later than 2 years after the date on which the parent applies for assistance under this title, and

  • Is unemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.

This value is determined by the Displaced Homemaker field on the Alaska State Information page.

  • 1 – Yes

Course Number

The local course number for the vocational/CTE course.

The number of high school credits earned by the student for the CTE course during the current school year.

Tech Prep 1

Indicates whether the student achieved an adequate proficiency level to receive Tech Prep Credit from an articulated postsecondary institution.

Valid values:

  • 1 – Yes

  • 0 – N

Tech Prep 2

Indicates whether the student actually received Tech Prep Credit from an articulated postsecondary institution during the reporting year. If so, this credit should appear on their postsecondary transcript during the reporting year.

For example, if 25 students meet the district requirements to pass an “L” CTE course, then report each student in the L column. If 15 of the students achieve an adequate level of proficiency, then report 1 for each of those students in the Tech Prep 1 column. If 5 of the proficient students actually registered for UA credit and paid their fees, report 1 for each of those students in the Tech Prep 2 column.
