Implementation

Credit Requirements

Credit requirements are implemented using Graduation Planner. A standard graduation contract must be created to reflect the requirements in the table above, using the subject group names shown. The exact subject group names as shown in the above table must be used. The selectors for each requirement must be defined using credit types (rather than selecting courses). Users may create whatever credit types seem appropriate provided they are assigned to the appropriate subject groups.

Overall credit limits (as described above) are not handled by Graduation Planner and thus are applied in the Ontario reports that show progress toward graduation: the Secondary Report Card, the Ontario student transcript (OST) and the Student Status Sheet report. In cases where the overall credit limit has been applied to a student, the status shown on the Graduation Plan Progress screen in PowerSchool and the Ontario reports will not match.

Credit substitution is effected by changing the credit type in Stored Grades records. The new credit type(s) must be associated with different diploma categories (subject groups) than those associated with the course for the change to be deemed a substitution. If the credit from a multi-credit course is to be substituted for more than one requirement, separate Stored Grades records for each substitution must be created.

Literacy Test Requirement

Graduation planner is not used to track this requirement. Rather it is determined by looking at student test history records for OSSLT test results. Note that this requirement is shown only on the Ontario reports and will not appear on the Graduation Plan Progress screen.

Community Hours Requirement

Graduation planner is not used to track this requirement. Progress toward this requirement is determined from the information that is maintained on the Community Hours tab on the State/Province - ON page. Note that this requirement is shown only on the Ontario reports and will not appear on the Graduation Plan Progress screen.

Requirements for Other Diploma Types

Some students may be working on (or have received) diplomas other than the OSSD described above. The diploma that applies to a student is stored in the student's Diploma Certificate Type field (on the General Info tab on the State/Province page). Each type of diploma has a different set of credit requirements as shown in the tables that follow. A separate graduation plan must be created for each diploma type.

None of these other diploma types have literacy test or community hour requirements. Credit substitution rules apply however.

COA (Certificate Of Accomplishment)

This is valid diploma/certificate type that must be reported to OnSIS. However there are no fixed credit requirements for this certificate and thus a graduation plan need not be created.
