Creating Incidents: Incident Builder: Incident Elements

Use the steps below to add behaviors, actions and attributes to the incident. See the Appendix for valid values.

  1. On the Incident List page, click the ID or title of the incident you’d like to edit.
  2. Click the Plus (+) button next to Incident Elements.
  3. Choose Add Behavior from the pop-up menu.
  4. Choose the behavior performed by the offender (Robbery, Arson, etc.) from the pop-up menu.
  5. Based on the behavior code, a behavior subcode pop-up menu may appear. Choose the appropriate subcode (With Weapon, Without Weapon) from the pop-up menu.
  6. Click Add Behavior. The behavior appears under the Incident Elements heading.
  7. If possible, click and drag the behavior to the appropriate offender. The behavior appears under the name of the offender and also remains listed under Incident Elements. The most severe behavior is reported for every incident, regardless of which participant is responsible for the behavior. If there are additional less severe behaviors in the incident for different offenders, drag the behavior to the offender to report that behavior for that individual, in addition to the most severe behavior.
  8. Click the Plus (+) button next to Incident Elements.
  9. Choose Add Action from the pop-up menu.
  10. Choose the appropriate action type (Student Actions, Staff Actions, Other Person Actions) from the pop-up menu.
  11. Based on the action code, an action subcode pop-up menu may appear. If so, choose the appropriate subcode from the pop-up menu.
  12. Populate the Action Date Range (Begin Date & End Date), Action Taken Detail, and Actual Resolution Date. The Action Date Range is required for auditing only.
  13. Choose the appropriate Duration Code (Hours, School Calendar Days, School Calendar Years) for the duration of the disciplinary action from the pop-up menu.
  14. Populate the Assigned Duration, Actual Duration and Duration Notes fields regarding the duration of the disciplinary action. The Duration Notes field is required for auditing purposes only. Assigned Duration and Actual Duration must be numeric entries.
  15. Populate the Action Change Reason field, if the disciplinary action code was updated or changed. This field is required for auditing purposes only.
  16. Click Add Action. The action appears under the Incident Elements heading.
  17. Click and drag the action to the appropriate behavior, which should be listed under the name of an offender. The action appears under the behavior and is no longer listed under the Incident Elements heading. The action must be
  18. Click the Plus (+) button next to Incident Elements.
  19. Choose Add Object from the pop-up menu, if any weapons were involved in the incident. If no weapons were involved in the incident, skip to step 24.
  20. Choose Weapons from the Object Code pop-up menu. A Weapons subcode pop-up menu appears.
  21. Choose the appropriate weapon (Handgun, Knives, etc.) from the pop-up menu.
  22. Populate the Description and Quantity fields for auditing purposes.
  23. Click Add Object. The object appears under the Incident Elements heading.
  24. Click and drag the object to the appropriate offender to associate the two elements.
  25. Click the Plus (+) button next to Incident Elements.
  26. Choose Add Attribute from the pop-up menu.
  27. Select the checkbox for any of the following attributes if they apply to this incident:
    • Involving Alcohol or Drugs
    • On School Transportation
    • IMHB not rising to the level of category 10 (IMHB is an acronym for Intimidation, Harassment, Menacing, or Bullying)
    • Gang Related
  28. Click Add Attributes or Cancel, based on whether any attributes apply to the incident.
  29. Click Submit Incident to save the changes.
