Elementary Bilingual Report Cards - French Standards and Courses Setup

Students enrolled in Program 101/110/111/112 should follow these Standard/Courses setup instructions:

Standards Setup for French Courses

This section describes how districts can set up French standards to print French Learning Behavior and Academic Achievements grades on the MB Elementary Bilingual Report Cards (Grades 7–8).

The following French Standards must be set up for the following Subjects

  • MATQ – Mathématiques

  • SCIF – Sciences de la nature

  • PHYQ – Éducation physique et Éducation à la santé

  • SHU- Sciences Humaines

The following section has examples for setting up the French standards for Mathématiques, Sciences de la nature, Éducation physique et Éducation à la santé, Sciences Humaines and Matière artistique courses. Refer to the examples while creating standards for any subject.

Enter any name. For this example, Mathématiques.

Identifier

Enter the correct identifier for the parent and the subject. For this example, E7-8.MATQ for Mathématiques (French Grade scale).

E7-8 is the identifier for the Elementary Report card 7-is an identifier for the subject.

Parent Standard

Enter the parent standard. For this example, E7-8.

Sort Order Within Parent

Enter the sequence number to specify where this subject appears within its parent. For this example, 2 for Mathématiques.

Is Active

Must be selected.

Arts Subjects French Standards Setup

For Arts, the following French Standards must be set up

  • FRBA: Arts – Band

  • FRCH: Arts – Choral

  • FRDA: Arts – Dance

  • FRDR: Arts – Drama

  • FRGU: Arts – Guitar

  • FRMU: Arts – Music

  • FROR: Arts – Strings/Orchestra

  • FRVA: Arts – Visual Arts

All ARTS SUBJECTS French Standard setup should follow the below example.

1. For Academic Achievements the name of the Identifiers E7-8.FRVA.C1/C2/C3/C4/C5 must be set in bilingual format: ‘French(English)(Subject name)’. For example, E7-8.FRVA.C2 is ‘création (creating)(arts visuels)’. The first parentheses contain the English version of création, and the second parentheses contain the subject name. In the PDF report output, the content up to the first parentheses is printed, but the second parentheses containing the subject name is ignored.This Standard Name will be used as Academic achievement labels on the Bilingual report card (7-8)

The following is an example to setup FRVA: Arts – arts visuels. Follow these steps for the other arts subjects.

Essential Course setup

  • Create separate courses for the different languages (English & French) . For example:

    • Create course MAT7 with language of instruction as ‘English’ which will be associated to MAT Standard

    • Create course MATQ7 with language of instruction as ‘French’ which will be associated to MATQ Standard

  • Settingup French Courses-

    • Set the language of instruction to “French”.

    • Fill the field “Course name (Bilingual)” on courses page as “French name (English name)”, e.g., “mathématiques (mathematics)”.

      • For Art courses & local optional courses, if “Course name (Bilingual)” is blank, the course name will appear as the course title on the report card PDF.

      • For Mathematics, Science, Social studies and Physical & health education courses, if “Course name (Bilingual)” is blank, the report displays a hardcoded bilingual course title.

      • These steps do not apply to français and English language arts.

  • Setup for English-taught courses (e.g., MAT7) linked to standard (e.g., MAT).

    • Set the language of instruction to “English”.

    • For all courses, the course name field should defined on the Courses page.

    • DO NOT USE THE 'Course name(Bilingual) field on courses page.
